Dayboat, Tender, or Mothership? Keys & Biscayne

Around Key Biscayne and into the Keys, the “right boat” question is often really three questions.

Around Key Biscayne and into the Keys, the “right boat” question is often really three questions.

Dayboat

Easy days on Biscayne Bay, sandbars, dinner runs. Draft, storage, and how you board matter as much as top speed.

Tender to a mothership

If you keep a larger yacht, the tender is your car. Reliability, tow/haul plan, and guest capacity beat Instagram angles.

Mothership

More range, more systems, more ownership stack. Worth it when you actually use the platform — nights aboard, longer hops, Bahamas staging — not when you only wanted a Sunday boat.

My take

Buy the boat that matches your real Saturday, not your highlight reel. South Florida makes a lot of programs possible. It also makes the wrong program expensive.

Dayboat, tender, or mothership — match the boat to how you actually leave the dock.
